The person and assumptions
Use the same age, smoking status, occupation and relevant application information. A quote based on different assumptions is not a fair price comparison.
Life insurance quotes
A low first premium tells you very little unless the person, cover, product, options, payment frequency and underwriting outcome all match.
Life Insurance Compare does not currently collect quote requests or send details to an adviser, insurer or lead buyer. A named Financial Advice Provider, verified panel, approved collection notice and tested delivery route are required first. Please do not send medical, policy or financial records through the website.
Like-for-like checklist
Ask for a written schedule and keep the policy wording that applies to the quoted product. If one field differs, mark the comparison as qualified rather than treating the prices as interchangeable.
Use the same age, smoking status, occupation and relevant application information. A quote based on different assumptions is not a fair price comparison.
Record the legal insurer, product name, sum insured and whether optional trauma, disability, premium-waiver or other benefits are included.
Identify stepped, level or blended pricing, the period for which that basis applies, and what the insurer can still change under the policy wording.
Compare the same payment frequency. Note policy fees, temporary discounts, programme-linked discounts and whether every displayed charge is included.
The initial illustration may change after underwriting. Compare the final offered terms, including exclusions, loadings, postponements and any benefit restrictions.
Know whether the quote is direct or adviser-assisted, which providers can actually be accessed, who gives advice and who receives your information.
After underwriting
An insurer may accept standard terms, offer cover with a higher premium or exclusion, postpone a decision, or decline an application. The final offer and applicable wording are what matter.
Do not cancel an existing policy simply because a new illustration looks cheaper. Confirm suitable replacement cover is in force and understand any changed exclusions, definitions, premium structure, ownership or lost legacy terms.
