Start with like-for-like facts

01

Purpose and amount

What the cover needs to fund, and for how long.

02

Premium path

How payments may change—not just the first price.

03

Policy wording

Definitions, expiry, built-in benefits and exclusions.

04

Access route

Direct, adviser-assisted, and whether it is actually on a partner panel.

Cheapest today is not automatically best over time.

Traceable facts

14 current primary-source records.

Neutral order

No commission-led ranking or invented score.

Honest hand-off

No partner panel is claimed before agreement.

A useful comparison first

Product names matter. So do the facts beneath them.

A brand can distribute a policy underwritten by another legal insurer. Benefits can also belong to one particular product—not every policy from that brand. We keep those layers separate.

How to compare well

Four decisions before any quote

A sensible comparison starts with needs and terms. Price becomes meaningful only when the assumptions and cover are comparable.

1

Estimate the job

Debts, household funding, future costs and existing resources.

2

Choose the time horizon

How long support may be needed, and how premiums may move.

3

Read product differences

Definitions, built-in benefits, expiry, ownership and options.

4

Use advice carefully

Only an identified licensed advice provider should give personalised advice.

What affects life-insurance cost

Compare the premium path, not an unsourced average

Age, smoking status, health, occupation, cover amount, optional benefits and premium structure can all change the price. Underwriting means an advertised example is not your quote.

Understand life-insurance costs

Stepped premiums

Often begin lower and generally change as age and other pricing factors change.

Level structures

Aim for a steadier specified premium basis, but are not a universal promise that every charge can never change.

Payment frequency

Fortnightly, monthly or annual payment options and policy fees can affect comparisons.

Optional benefits

Trauma, disability and premium-waiver options can change both protection and cost.

Different problems, different cover

Life cover is not income protection

Life cover generally pays on death or a qualifying terminal illness. Income protection is designed around loss of earnings following illness or injury. Mortgage-repayment disability cover, ACC and redundancy products each work differently again.
